Communications Interpreting launched Red Dot Connect video online interpreting service in November 2012.
Red Dot Connect is an exciting, state-of-the-art, video online interpreting service that provides registered and qualified sign language interpreters at the touch of a button. With no need for specialist equipment, this remote service offers a cost-effective option.
Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) – enables a hearing person and Deaf person in the same location to communicate with each other through a remote interpreter (in another location) via a video call.
One example of Red Dot Connect would be when a Deaf patient attends an emergency healthcare site where there is no pre-arranged face-to-face interpreter present. A video-call to a remote interpreter can enable effective communication between the Deaf patient and the clinician/professional so that assessment, diagnosis and treatment can be implemented without delay.
It offers an immediate solution to an emergency or short notice need for an interpreter, it complements but does not replace our face-to-face BSL/English interpreting service.
Red Dot Connect – On-demand provides access to fully qualified & NRCPD registered interpreters for:
- Social care
- Primary, secondary, further and higher education
- Employment and training
- Customer service centres in public and or private sectors
- Customer service centres in corporate, retail, travel and banking businesses
- Fire, ambulance and police emergency situations
Video Relay Service (VRS) – enables a Deaf person with a tablet/computer/mobile phone to call a hearing person with a telephone via a remote interpreter. Enables a hearing person with a telephone to call a Deaf person with a tablet/computer/mobile phone via a remote interpreter.
